Shop around a bit and get a
feel for whether you’ll be able to work with them or not. Any jeweler
should have a portfolio so you can get an idea of the person’s ability
and skill.
FIND YOUR STYLE
Find a designer who understands
your style so that when you relay information they’re less likely to
push something on you. Don’t be afraid to ask a designer to see their
work first.
EXTRA HELP
Magazine tears of different
styles or looks you’d like to portray with the jewelry are really
helpful. They also help to give the designer a better idea of who you
are and your personality. If it’s for a special occasion, a picture of
the outfit or a swatch of the fabric is great.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO SPEND?
Do your research not only in
design but on how much it would cost. Then say, This is how much I want
to spend and how much will it get me.
HAVE A BUDGET!
A jeweler or designer can work
within it, metal-wise and style-wise. Custom-made is no more expensive
than going retail. Sometimes it’s even cheaper, and it’s always more
personal.
